Syncing with the seasons

Syncing with the seasons helps our bodies achieve homeostasis. Homeostasis is our body's ability to self-regulate through harmonization amongst our well-designed internal systems, resulting in overall health and wellness. In Western culture, our bodily systems include musculoskeletal, nervous, endocrine, digestive, and more.

In Eastern culture and Western Indigenous cultures expand the view of the body’s composition to include energetic systems. Traditional Chinese Medicine is an example of a holistic health approach that connects all aspects of nature with our bodies. We can harmonize through diet, exercise, and treatments that balance the corresponding energy channels that course through our bodies. These channels are called Meridians and are attributed to the ancient medical practice called Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Meridians correspond with each season and the primary elements of nature like fire, water, air, metal, and earth. Each element corresponds to a season. Each season, we can move our bodies in certain ways and eat certain foods to support homeostasis, recover from the previous season, and prepare for the upcoming one.

Discover the TCM seasonal correspondences in four subsequent posts and how vital they are to keeping our bodies in homeostasis. Being in homeostasis results in being more resistent to infections, reduced inflammation, blood sugar regulation, healthy organ function, and more!
